What is Benign Prostate Hyperplasia?

Benign Prostate Hyperplasia commonly known as benign prostate enlargement is a is the most common prostate problem in men in which the prostate gland is enlarged and not cancerous.

The prostate gland is located directly beneath the bladder and in front of the rectum. The urethra passes through the prostate, so if the prostate becomes enlarged, it can keep urine or semen from passing through the urethra.

What are symptoms of BPH?

An enlarged prostate can block either one or both bladder. Feeling of urgency to urinate is the most common symptom of BPH. This might be every 1 to 2 hours, mainly at night.

Other symptoms include:

  • Feeling that the bladder is full, even right after urinating
  • Feeling that urinating “can’t wait”
  • A weak flow of urine
  • Needing to stop and start urinating several times
  • Trouble starting to urinate
  • Trouble starting to urinate
  • Needing to push or strain to urinate

In severe conditions, a person is unable to urinate at all. In such a case, a person should consult a urologist right away.

What are the causes of BPH?

The exact cause of BPH is not well-understood. Some researchers believe that factors related to aging and the testicles may cause BPH.
